#18-0 Japanese Speaking and Writing from Scratch with Moto for JLPT N5 Beginner and Intermediate level, “Explanation of Dictionary form G2, G3 & G1 verb”

(L18-0 does not have any Speaking and Writing exercises. They have only explanation for Dictionary form .) 

 

 

Improvement of Speaking and Writing

 

こんにちは。モトです。I am Japanese and I am teaching Japanese. In this series, I will share my practice way for N5 Beginner and Intermediate level learners who want to review.

 

If learners are studying Japanese only for JLPT as test preparation, it might be difficult to improve speaking and writing Japanese actually, because the test does not cover Speaking and Writing. Thus, we set a Goal to improve Speaking and Writing in this series while learning JLPT N5 Beginner topics.

 

 

Features and Advantages

 

While using Practice Sheet, we try to remember Question and Response sentences as Dialogue to learn how to use word and grammar. (Using story or dialogues, it could be easier to remember them efficiently.)

 

It is also good to partially hide some words in tables in Practice Sheet by hand to check your progress or you can also change part of words and make another sentence like improvisation music.

 

After Speaking, through making your sentences, you can improve Writing. (Based on your sentences, it is good to make your Practice Sheet and play Dialogues with other learners.)

 

I will apply Minna no Nihongo to speaking and writing practice that covers almost all topics introduced by Genki so Genki user can also use this series.

 

(I will cite English translation from the textbook as it is, or I try to translate some expressions by myself. Now I am also learning English so my translation and explanation could be not correct or not natural, sorry for that.)

 

 

Explanation for G2, G3 & G1 Verb

 

 

Dictionary-Form

 

When we want to say “Person can do something” in Japanese, we can use a pattern “Verb Dictionary Form + こと ができます”. To use this pattern, we need to know conjugation of verb, how to make Dictionary Form.

 

 

Dictionary form for Group2 Verb

 

I will use おしえます as a example. Just remove ます and put , we can get “Dictionary form おしえる”. When we want to say “Subject can do something”, just put “ことができます”, so finally we can get “おしえる(Dictionary form) ことができます”, Subject can teach-.

 

 

Dictionary form for Group 3 Verb

 

It has just 3 types so it might be good to just memorize them.

 

Come きます(Masu From) / くる(Dictionary Form)

→ くる(D form +ことができます。Subject can come-.

 

Do します(Masu Form)/ する(Dictionary Form)

→ する(D form)+ ことができます。 Subject can do-.

 

--- します(Masu Form)/ ――+する(Dictionary Form)

→ E.g. べんきょうします→べんきょうする(DF+ことができます, Subject can study -.

 

 

Dictionary form for Group1 Verb

 

I will use cut=きります as a example. Before ます, G1 verb has “i” sound like ”きりますkir i masu”. “i” that has “i” sound becomes る that has u sound in rowらりるれろ. So, finally, きる is Dictionary Form. To make Dictionary form, “i” sound becomes “u” sound in same Hiragana row.

 

きりiます(Masu FormきるuDictionary form

→きる(D form)+ ことができます。Subject can cut-.

 

Drinkのみiます(Masu Form/のむu(Dictionary form)

→のむ(D form)+  ことができます。Subject can drink-.

 

Buy かいiます(Masu Form/かうu(Dictionary form)

→かう(D form)+  ことができます。Subject can buy-.
